The NAACP Parents’ Council is holding its annual kickoff meeting from 5:30–9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Northwest High School in Germantown, Maryland.
This year’s theme is “Championing Equity and Excellence in Education.” The keynote speaker is John B. King Jr., former U.S. Secretary of Education from 2016–2017. He is president and CEO of The Education Trust. Previously, he served as the Deputy Secretary of Education. From 2011–2014, he was the New York State Education Commissioner. King lives in Silver Spring, Md., with his wife (a former kindergarten and first-grade teacher) and his two daughters, who attend local public schools.
