Community Arts African Dance Class (Montgomery College)

Discover the art and beauty of African dance. Learn the posture, movements, and stylistic technique of traditional dances from Ethiopia, Mali, Guinea, and/or Senegal. Apply what you’ve learned in performance-focused choreography. All levels. TRADITIONAL + CONTEMPORARY.

Notes: 1) Pre-registration is free, but the class is $12 per person. 2) You can register and pay online or on the day of this class on the day of class (CU205) with payment for Montgomery College. Please arrive at 9:30 am to register, as class begins at 10am. 3) Minimum age for participants is 16-years old.

What is pre-registration on eventbrite?

Getting an eventbrite pre-registration ticket allows you to get your name on the sign-in roster for African Dance Class in advance. Participants who have pre-registered on eventbrite will be allowed to register on-site (room CU205) first, before those who have not pre-registered.

How much does this class cost?

As of 12/1/2019, the cost is $12.00 for one class session on any date for all, including Maryland Residents, Senior Maryland Residents, and Non-Maryland (NMR) Residents.

If registration and payment is made for all 10 class sessions (PFA055) at one-time, the discounted cost is (1) $40.00 for Senior (Age 60+) Maryland Residents ($4.00 a class), (2) $95.00 for Maryland Residents, and (3) $145.00 for Non-Maryland Residents.

You can register for this class on the day of class (CU205) with payment for Montgomery College. Please arrive at 9:30 am to register, as class begins at 10am.

What time does class start and end?

Please plan to arrive at 9:30am or earlier. The classroom opens at 9:30am for welcome, change into dance clothes, sign-in/registration, and transition to class. Class starts at 10am and ends at 10:45am.

What are the dates for African Dance class?

African Dance class will be held on Saturdays for Spring 2020 and Summer 2020. The dates for Spring 2020 are 2/15, 2/22, 2/29, 3/7, 3/14, (no class 3/21), 3/28, 4/4, 4/11, 4/18, and 4/25.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

PARKING: You my park in WG (West Garage) on the upper levels. From Georgia Avenue, take the entry to right of building, drive past Cultural Arts center and turn right. West Garage is in back of the Cafritz Building. Park for free on the upper levels.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Red Line Metro to Silver Spring Station. Take East-West Highway Exit. Turn Left on East-West Highway and walk .6 miles (5 blocks).
